Batman: Arkham City GOTY, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Rocksteady Studios
The Trailer
My Reaction
I don’t usually enjoy superhero games, but Arkham City and I hit it off from the start. I was pulled into the story and into the role of a crime-fighting genius.
Overview
Batman: Arkham City picks up after Arkham Asylum, with Quincy Sharp having turned a walled-off section of Gotham into a massive open-air prison under the control of Hugo Strange. Bruce Wayne is thrown inside and has to work out what Strange’s secretive “Protocol 10” really means while dealing with the inmates who now run the streets, including the Joker, Two-Face, Penguin and Mr. Freeze. The Game of the Year Edition bundles the base game with additional content such as Catwoman story missions, challenge maps and extra costumes.
What I Liked
- The free-flow combat is fluid, satisfying and easy to pick up.
- Arkham City is a dense, atmospheric open-world playground that’s great to glide and grapple through.
- A stacked rogues’ gallery gives the story plenty of memorable moments.
What I Didn’t Like
- The repetition of fighting off guards and prisoners.
Verdict
Arkham City is a confident, polished superhero game that expands on its predecessor with a bigger world and a bigger cast, and it still stands as one of the best Batman experiences.
