The Trailer

My Reaction

I liked the concept, but playing it was a grind. Clearing out zombie hordes and scavenging town after town got repetitive fast.

Overview

State of Decay is an open-world zombie survival game developed by Undead Labs. You lead a group of survivors after a zombie outbreak, scavenging for supplies, building up a home base and managing your community as you try to stay alive in a valley overrun by the undead.

What I Liked

  • The concept is strong: managing a group of survivors and a home base instead of a single hero.
  • Scavenging for supplies gives every trip out a sense of purpose.

What I Didn’t Like

  • The gameplay loop turns into a grind.
  • Fighting zombie hordes gets repetitive.
  • The towns start to feel the same after a while.

Verdict

State of Decay has a great idea at its core, but the repetition wears it down. Fighting the same hordes through the same towns makes it feel more like a grind than a fight for survival.
