The Trailer

My Reaction

Super Mario World took everything I loved about Mario on the NES and made it bigger and more colorful on the Super Nintendo. It’s a joy to play from the first level to the last.

Overview

Super Mario World is a 1990 platform game developed and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was released in Japan in 1990, in North America in 1991 and in PAL territories in 1992. Mario and Luigi travel across Dinosaur Land to rescue Princess Toadstool from Bowser, meeting Yoshi for the first time along the way. The Cape Feather lets Mario soar through levels and many stages hide secret exits that open up new paths on the world map, including the Star Road and the Special Zone.

What I Liked

  • Yoshi is a fantastic addition, gobbling up enemies and giving Mario an extra boost.
  • The Cape Feather makes flying feel even better than it did in Super Mario Bros. 3.
  • Hunting for secret exits gives the game a ton of replay value.
  • The bright 16-bit graphics and catchy music still hold up.

Verdict

Super Mario World is a classic that set the standard for platformers on the Super Nintendo. Any Mario fan should play it at least once.
