The Trailer

My Reaction

Watch Dogs 2 is a gorgeous game. The San Francisco setting is beautifully realised and the hacking mechanics make the open world feel genuinely different from anything else out there. The tone is lighter and more fun than the first game and it works. An easy buy.

Overview

Watch Dogs 2 is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. Released in 2016, it follows Marcus Holloway, a young hacker who joins the hacktivist group DedSec in the San Francisco Bay Area. Players use hacking, gadgets and parkour to take on missions, expose corruption and cause chaos across a richly detailed recreation of San Francisco, Oakland and Silicon Valley.

What I Liked

  • The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most visually striking open worlds in gaming.
  • Hacking mechanics are deep and creative; there are multiple ways to approach every situation.
  • The tone and characters are a massive improvement over the original.
  • The drone and RC car gadgets open up genuinely fun and inventive gameplay.
  • The online multiplayer integration is seamless and adds a lot of life to the world.

What I Didn’t Like

900p resolution doesn’t do it any favors. It’s a gorgeous game and deserves a proper next-gen patch so players can enjoy it in 4K60. Sure, the PC version does have an HD textures pack, but I would love the same to be made available for console owners.

Verdict

Watch Dogs 2 is a confident, creative open-world game that improves on its predecessor in almost every way. The hacking sandbox is genuinely fun to play with and San Francisco is a joy to explore. The resolution issue holds it back on console but the game itself is well worth your time.
