About This Song
“The Tower” is a track by Future Islands, the Baltimore synth-pop band fronted by Samuel T. Herring. It’s built on warm, layered synths and a steady. Pulsing rhythm, with Herring’s voice carrying the emotion front and center.
First Impressions
The synths wash over you right away, warm and unhurried. Herring’s vocals feel intimate, as if he’s singing directly to you.
My Reaction
Future Islands songs are like a massage for the soul. The music is patient and generous, never rushing to make a point and Herring’s delivery is so earnest that it’s hard not to feel lighter by the end. “The Tower” captures that feeling well, a soothing, heartfelt track that’s easy to return to whenever you need to slow down.
